Distance Education Programme

Welcome to Distance Education Program...

The DEP was a project of the National Health and Education Committee of Burma (NHEC). The NHEC is made of representatives of the various health and education groups within the ethnic communities and opposition political organisations of Burma.

DEP started in 1997. It received funding from America, Denmark and Australia.

The DEP offered an English programme and the Community Management course. The Community Management course was an accredited course from Australia. Students who completed the course had received a certificate from Australia. The Community Management course was provided in English (but it was also translated into Burmese). It was made up of 20 modules. Each module was a different topic and came in the form of a book with information, exercises and the assessment. Students did not learn in a building with a teacher. They learned from their modules and so it was a distance education course. The 'teachers' and 'assessors' were somewhere else; they were at a distance.

The English programme was to help adults improve their English skills. Many English students wanted to join the Community Management course after improving their English skills. Some English students wanted to improve their English for other reasons – to teach better, to study something, to communicate with foreigners…

DEP developed another accredited course. It was called the Primary Health Care course. Students who completed this course also received a certificate from Australia.

In year 2000, DEP was given approval by the Thai Ministry of Interior to run our programmes in Tak province, Mae Hong Son province, Kanchanaburi province and Rachaburi province.

At that present, the NHEC is seeking fund to resume Distance Learning Program at expend online learning programme.
